Seventy + years in the making.

Each mounted slide was once in a camera. For fractions of a second, the only thing separating the chemistry of Kodak's famous Kodachrome film from the moment being captured was a lens. It was then rolled up into a cannister, mailed in or dropped off at a lab, developed, and mounted in a 2x2 inch cardboard frame. The image could then be projected and displayed larger than life in rich, saturated color. Not unlike our iPhone snapshots today, these countless photographs documented loved ones, vacations, cars, and moments they held dear.

Over time, their colors fade and the original photographers pass on. After years of sitting in attics and closets, they're often donated to thrift stores and auctioned off on eBay—at best. (And at worst, thrown away.) From the majestic and historical to the mundanity of everyday, a curatorial eye can help bring narrative and perspective to tens of thousands of images.

This is the future home of such a curation—an ongoing effort made by published novelist and photographer, Oliver Dahl.

With over 1,500 scans already completed... there's a lot I have to share. There's the nostalgia of life in the midcentury, national parks and the Grand American Road Trip, and people's travels across Europe, Japan, Nepal, Hawaii, and more. Images of historical significance featuring color photographs of the aftermath of World War II bombings, Native American daily life, and other events add significance and weight to the ongoing curation.
