Translucent: (adj.) transmitting and diffusing light so that objects beyond cannot be seen clearly.

Taken on a nearly 50 year old film camera, the Mamiya RB67, with Fuji Velvia 100 Slide Film.

This photograph was taken in Mount Rainier National Park during a summer 2021 family trip. Over the course of several days, we tried hiking different regions in the hopes of catching a glimpse of the park's namesake peak through the dense fog.

Holding this purple film slide up to the light sends me back to the mountainside.

The rest of my family had gone ahead while I lagged behind to take this photo. Pink wildflowers lined the trail, glowing in the alpine fog. The air was cold and wet... the serenity of the scene broken only by the slap of my shutter. The trees swayed with indifference.

The peak we came for was nowhere to be seen, but this pocket of ethereal serenity showed me a beauty that couldn't be planned for or seen any other way.

WENDOVER

WENDOVER is Oliver Dahl's second published photographic exploration of a small town, a sequel to the series debut, ARCO. The book (and accompanying 30-image NFT collection) features a combination of digital and analog photography, paired with stories and history from this town in the Great Salt Lake Desert.

From gambling and speed racing to scuba diving and bombing ranges, Wendover is much more than just a sleepy city by the salt flats.

This photo series is the result of 5 different dedicated trips throughout the last year in each of the four seasons. It explores the effects of connection and separation that result from borders and distance, while crafting an honest, raw, and liminal depiction of the gambling town "oasis" of Wendover.

WHO WE ARE is the first grant given by Obscura via PaisanoDAO, distributing $100,000 to 100 photographers across the globe.
The aim of WHO WE ARE is to document humans who are participating, building, and creating in Web3 and the NFT space in 2021, the year NFTs took the world by storm. The project has encompassed 33 countries and over 175 people so far, and will be ongoing, continuing perpetually with Obscura as it grows over time.
WHO WE ARE 200 is the first chapter, capped at 200 photos.

I was selected as one of these first 100 photographers by Obscura, and had the opportunity to photograph Frankie Sutera as a part of the collection.

Frankie Sutera is a landscape photographer based in Salt Lake City. A former college football player, he is the creator behind the Lil Franks NFT profile photo series.
